Forged iron still makes sense

A helical rail cannot be a kit of mitred tubes if you care about the line. We heat, bend, and dress each segment so the hand never finds a joint. The carbon cost is in the furnace hours, not in a container from the other side of the world. That is a trade we will keep making.
